Live, Love and Let Go: A Doctor’s Insightful Approach to Living and Dying.
All of us at some point will be confronted with the issues of death and the dying process. As a physician, James Abshire has had the unique opportunity to console and counsel many patients and their families on the immense medical, financial and emotional issues which are encountered in this phase of life. However, he saw people struggling with life and death issues as well as other phases of their lives that just couldn’t be adequately addressed in the short time of a doctor’s visit. As a result, he felt called to develop a process and put it down in a book. Six years later, Live, Love, and Let Go was born.
Two years into the project, Dr. Abshire was diagnosed with his own terminal illness. The outcome has been an insight into the last phase of life from both a personal as well as family and caregiver perspective. His method relies on medical and practical knowledge wrapped in a strong faith based plan.
The gamut of end of life issues is covered in 23 stand alone chapters. They include: fear, hope, pain, physical suffering, a wide array of emotional struggles, code status and end-of-life decisions,
heaven, humor, hospice care, and the benefits of faith building. In fact, our approach to these difficult times is our greatest opportunity to witness for that faith.
Dr. Abshire finds that no matter the life problem, the situation can be improved by concentrating on three concepts: working at keeping a positive attitude, a continual focus on faith, and looking at events in proper perspective which includes getting the big picture. The themes of attitude, focus, and perspective flow throughout the book.
Live, Love, and Let Go provides the tools needed to make positive informed choices, as well as to develop a proactive, practical and spiritual approach to the most difficult phase of life.
